I am standing for election as a Common Councillor for the Farringdon Within ward of The City of London.

If you have been placed on the voters list, please exercise your right to vote.

The polling station at Cutler’s Hall will be open on 20 March from 8 am to 8 pm, EC4M 7BR. If you cannot attend a polling station in person on 20 March, you can apply for a postal vote by 5 pm on 5 March or for a proxy vote by 5 pm on 12 March (more City of London voting info online here).

Why I have decided to run

Following a recent burglary in a building downstairs from me in Carter Lane and noticing the many prospective candidates for Ward elections with tenuous links to the City or its traditions, I have decided to stand for election in Farringdon Within Ward as a resident who cares deeply about the future of our City.

I am particularly interested in ensuring that our City remains a vibrant and exciting place for young professionals to live, work, and build their lives for the present and the future, and that City governance is led by those living and working here, with strong connections to City life, people, businesses, and organizations.

If I am elected, I plan to use this page to keep my constituents in the Farringdon Within Ward updated regularly about developments and issues in the ward, and I will commit to transparently sharing information here, as well as having periodic "office hour" times at local pubs where constituents can drop in and discuss any of their concerns or questions with me.

You can get to know me better between now and 20 March at the following drop-in sessions and at our Wardmote:

- 27 February at The Rising Sun in Carter Lane from 18:00 to 20:00

- 6 March at The Hand and Shears in Cloth Fair from 18:00 to 20:00

- 13 March at The Blackfriar by Blackfriar's Station from 18:00 to 20:00

- 18 March at The Slug & Lettuce on Aldersgate Street from 18:00 to 20:00

- 19 March for the Farringdon Within Wardmote at Cutler's Hall at 12:30 pm.

My background in The City

By way of introduction, I live in Farringdon, my Livery Company, The Worshipful Society of Apothecaries is based in Farringdon, and Farringdon Within is where I have chosen to make my home. I am standing for election in response to the growing number of candidates with weak connections to the City or its most relevant professional standards.

I am passionate about driving improvements, being accountable for the responsibilities I take on, and advocating for greater representation of pharmaceutical companies on the London Stock Exchange and Life Sciences professionals in the City of London Corporation.

I worked as an eye surgeon in the NHS before moving into biotech, where I develop chemotherapy agents for the hardest-to-treat cancers, working from home in Farringdon. In my spare time, I am committed to improving inclusion within our civic movement through my work on committees at the Apothecaries, where I had the privilege of leading the Young Apothecaries group. This initiative focuses on opening the doors of the City to professionals in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors.

Additionally, I serve as a senior member of The Guild of Young Freemen, an organisation that fosters young talent and promotes engagement with the City’s civic world through charitable work and fellowship. I am also a lifetime member of both the Guild of Freemen of the City of London and the Farringdon Ward Club. Through these connections, I have developed a clear and practical understanding of how the City operates and how to effect meaningful change.

Personally, living in The City has introduced me to a large number of hardworking, dedicated people, whether those are the local business owners near where I live in Carter Lane, the many peers I have met through the Guild of Young Freemen, or newcomers to City life who are med students and apprentices at the Apothecaries, many of whom are dedicating their lives to serving others whether in the NHS or as military medics. Being part of this community has added immeasurably to my enjoyment of life, not to mention how much I have learned from others whether they be professional or social connections, and I am looking forward to this opportunity to give back to a community that has had such a positive impact in my life.
